Description:
I have a real fondness for Scotland - most of which is directed at the wilds and the highlands. But Oban is certainly one of my favourite towns, and not just because they produce an excellent whisky!
Oban is an important port on the west coast of Scotland that is a main point of access for the Inner and Outer Hebrides. It has a great feel to it - small and bustling - but with a real village feel. Ullapool to the north has become a bit cheapened by commerce, but Oban seems to have hit the balance just right.
This image is of the harbour and was made at about 11pm on a mid-summer's night. Ann and I had just seen a movie at the local cinema and were walking back to our B&B when we were presented with this sight. Ann very obligingly ran up to the B&B to get my camera, and since I didn't have a tripod I balanced it carefully on a convenient rock. The exposure was about 5 seconds, if I recall.
This is one of my favourite images, as it really captures the sense of tranquility that pervaded the scene.
