Description:
The Giant's Causeway is one of Ireland's natural wonders, and is the gem of the north Antrim coastline.
The thousands of hexagonal (or nearly so) basalt columns were formed when a lava flow cooled rapidly, causing it to fracture in a regular pattern. Or because the giant, Finn McCool, wanted to invite his Scottish rival over for a friendly punch-up. Take your pick!
Photographing the Causeway is a challenge. Here, I've used a long exposure to smooth the crashing waves and create a mystical feel which is altogether in tune with the location itself.
The clouds appear smooth because they were moving during the exposure, as well. The golden hues of the fading sunset light decorate the sky, while the cooler blue of night washes over the great stones in the foreground.
