Description:
Sandycove is a partner village to Glasthule and lies just to the south of Dun Laoghaire. It sports a wonderful little bit of coastline extending from the old public baths (now in ruins) to the Martello Tower on the point, from which Buck Mulligan and Stephen Dedalus surveyed Dublin Bay in the opening chapter of Joyce's Ulysses.
This image was made along the waterfront promenade near the baths, just as dawn was breaking. A long exposure (around 5 seconds) was used to smooth out the wave action on the rocks in the foreground, creating a misty effect as the water ebbed and flowed around them.
The sweep of Sandycove Bay is visible all the way to Joyce's Tower and the 40 Foot bathing place, right at the far point.
