Description:
This is a truly unique photograph. Puffins tend to nest in long, complicated burrows at the tops of cliffs, which makes it all but impossible to photograph them.
As luck would have it, walking along the beach at the base of the cliffs of Dyrólaey we saw this puffin standing outside a hole in the cliff wall. It hopped in as we approached and we were treated to this view of its nest, complete with egg.
Puffins lay a single egg, and both parents incubate it and feed the chick so it's impossible to tell if this is the male or the female.
