Killary Harbour, Connemara

Description:
Killary Harbour, half in Mayo and half in Galway, is Ireland’s only fjord. It extends in from the Atlantic for several miles and is steep-sided and majestic. The highest mountains in Connemara - the Mweelrea Ridge - form part of its northern wall.

This image was made while looking directly into the afternoon Sun. Not typically a recipe for a good photograph! However, in this case the intervening clouds filter the light enough to allow the scene to be recorded, and what a cloudscape it is.

The view is towards the west. The town of Leenaun would be just off the left side of this image.
