Description:
This image was made just after dawn on a dull April morning. The view is across a narrow bay on the northwestern corner of Lough Corrib. The woods in the foreground extend up to the right to form Doon Hill, which can be seen in more detail in this photograph, taken about a half an hour beforehand. The ridges in the background are the beginnings of Joyce's country, which is a mountainous region that is nestled on the isthmus between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib.
I think this scene reflects the quiet beauty of the place on an unremarkable morning. The low cloud is showing the subtle reflected colours of a muted sunrise, and the still lake and quiet boathouse reflect a sense of peace and quiet.
